As the temperatures drop, I've found myself on a boot shopping spree!

Everyone seems to want new boots this year. The timing couldn't be better, with so many stylish options available at fantastic discounts.

After a recent shopping session with a client (that also needed new boots), I returned to Nordstrom to explore the selection and try on several pairs that I believe will suit a wide range of tastes and needs.

The boot I find myself recommending most is a heeled knee boot.

If you wear dresses or skirts below the knee, especially, a sleek heeled knee boot that hugs the leg is a MUST if you want to look stylish.

Save your flat riding boots for short skirts (and perhaps tights) or for over your slim jeans (a very "in" look this year). Flat boots will make you look short and well... stumpy. Don't hate me. Even if you make it a wee little heel or a block heel....any heel elevates your look.

Brown is the color of the season but a black is a necessity first and foremost, if you don't already have one. This one comes in black and both regular and wide calf.

Suede is everywhere this winter and brown suede-well, you're super fashionable if you choose that combo.

This is such a pretty boot and it's available in a bunch of colors and prints and wide calf and regular widths too!

So sleek, this one.

This is a thing of beauty. It's a HOT shade of burgundy and faux croc... a real statement-maker.

Now, my advice is to save this slightly wider, lower-heeled boot for your denim, your leggings and fitted pants, and your short skirts and dresses. The shaft is a little wide for anything else.

If you can get your hands on this ivory bootie, grab it! This classic style boot is not too pointed, not too high (a medium heel) and hits the leg in a great slimming spot.

The black is a versatile neutral you may want to pick up too.

This one will be your go-to bootie.

I love the way this one hugs the ankle and has just a short comfortable heel. It's also nice that it's under $65 and gets great reviews! Available in three colors!

Over the years my snakeskin boots have served me well. They really pull an outfit together when I'm not sure what to wear with a color and they really jazz up any neutral otherwise boring outfit too.

I picked up this boot in black because I knew it would look fantastic on the leg with bare legs/tights and shorter dresses or with tights and longer skirts and dresses. The tights will extend the leg line, keeping the look sleek.

The boot appears narrow, but I found it was actually quite comfortable on my "almost wide" foot, even after wearing them for several hours.

These look so good with so many things...like slim pants, maxi skirts, under wide leg pants and all of the above the knee dresses I tried on, so flattering to the leg! It's also available in a pretty snake print.

Here's another cool snakeskin bootie-without a pointed heel, a little less dressy-that would be fantastic with jeans or black pants.

Is snake print too over the top for you? How about this compromise? You still get the cool girl factor in this western style boot but just a touch of an animal print. Perfect.

This would look cute with tights and a short skirt, tights and a slim midi/maxi style skirt and of course with all of your denim.
