September Edit

Just as the leaves are starting to turn, it's also time to start turning over that summer wardrobe. That means put away the linen, the bright summery colors, and the raffia until next season and begin to ease into booties, sweaters and heavier denim, along with the deeper shades of fall.

For my September edit I went shopping with intention. I was on a mission to find three looks... a casual everyday outfit, something a bit dressier for going out, and a versatile outfit for work.

Jeans and a sweater, nothing mind-blowing there... BUT...we're at an age that we should consider more than just cost or trend. Does the sweater feel good? Is it made of breathable, natural material? Is it sustainable? Is it going to last? Do you feel confident in it? Is the color good for you? The jeans... will they stretch out or will they retain their shape? Are they flattering? Will they last? Does the fading look natural? 

This funnel-neck sweater from Vince is a minimalist style that comes in a whopping 11 colors! I'm wearing an extra small as I often do in Vince's oversized styles. My Vince sweaters from 10 years ago are still in fantastic shape (I de-pill them each season and launder them delicately) and are still some of my favorites that I wear year-after-year. 

These wide leg jeans by AG hug in the right places and are forgiving where it's needed most. The hem is "raw" so you can simply cut them if the length doesn't work for you (should be a little above your ankle). The weight is somewhere in the middle and the stretch offers lots of support to your thighs and bottom. Plus, AG is well-known and has been in the denim business long enough to know what works. I'm wearing a 27, which AG notes is a size 4. 

Ankle boots work with most denim outfits but why not step out of the box a little and try the ivory when you can? It's these extra details that make an outfit special and a touch more stylish. Snakeskin is always in rotation in my closet because it pulls an outfit together so well and goes with any color. It's back as a trend this fall too. 

My belt worked beautifully with the booties and so did my crossbody. I almost always use a small crossbody because it saves my back and feels secure. 

I typically switch up to darker florals in the fall and this maxi dress with a black background is so easy to layer and style. Add a black cardigan, blazer and belt, a denim jacket...so many possibilities. I wore the dress with a heeled moto-style boot just to mix up the look, make it a little less "pretty", add some edge.

I LOVE these boots! I'm taking them to New York Fashion Week this week because they just make all my outfits look cool. 

I'm wearing a small in the dress, true to size. The dress is available in 7 color options, standard, petite, and plus! It's an easy fit and just makes an entrance. The boots are true to size as well.

Now here's a look that stands the test of time - a knit blazer, a pencil skirt, and a pump. This look is polished, but not severe. 

The knit blazer from Anthropologie is a subtle plaid pattern in shades of pink, olive green, beige and black. It will pair with so much of what you own! It's a lightweight, lined piece with a button on the sleeve to hold that "pushed" look. Pushing your sleeves to expose your wrist makes one look a bit slimmer. Wear the blazer with trousers, a skirt or dress for work and bring it out on the weekend with your jeans, denim skirts, and joggers too. I'm wearing a 4, TTS in the blazer.

The pencil skirt is a tried and true Anthro favorite. It is available in a few fabrics, colors, prints. I chose the black for ease of styling and the corduroy to add an interesting texture to the outfit. I'm wearing a small in the skirt, TTS. 

I wore this out with a classic patent pump and a slouchy tote from Allsaints, one of my workhorse bags.
