One last Anniversary shopping day
With the Nordstrom Anniversary sale ending on August 6th I wanted to make sure I had one more look, so this past Saturday I stopped by the Nordstrom in Arlington, VA to search for last minute Anniversary finds. Keep scrolling to see what I found…

I started this adventure in the shoe department. I’d heard great reviews on this 27 Edit (by Naturalizer) pump. I recently tried and recommended an ankle boot by the brand that was similar to this pump. They’re both mixed leather and suede heels from a designer well-known for comfort. I have clients shopping for clothes for work, so comfort is a pre-requisite.
I challenged myself to skip the black and share ways to style this bordeaux that is HOT for fall, hot in the NSale. I came upon a beautiful selection of fresh DKNY apparel, something I hadn’t seen in person at any Nordstrom I’d visited thus far. This marbelized wine-stained collection needed to be tried on. Pleated wide leg pants and relaxed blazers make a trendy power suit and went perfectly with the pumps.
A note on sizing and alterations:
I’m wearing an xsmall in the blazer (definitely size down) and my typical size 4 in the pants. They were roomy (that’s the look) but the waist was just a teeny bit big. I’d move the button over slightly to tighten the waistline and perfectly line up that pattern, an easy alteration for the Nordstrom staff (or yourself).
The tops are all smalls. The patterned Farm Rio is meant to be oversized but I think an xsmall on my petite frame would have worked better.
The pants need a hem and of course would look even better on someone taller. Check out the outfit on those leggy models. Sharp. I opted for the size 7, TTS in the pump.

This dress cinches at the ribcage and you can adjust that peek of skin to be as tiny or as wide as you’d like. The dress is a small and so popular it comes back every season in different colors.
I asked for a brown ankle boot and discovered the Bordeaux shade when I opened the box. That’s fine. It’s quite pretty and it actually complemented the gorgeous silk midi dress I brought into the dressing room. It is a great look if you want to make the dress a little more casual. Of course you can change the shoe to a dainty heel for a more elegant look. The booties are sleek and very comfortable and affordable.

I had a client asking for a camel coat. I headed for the Anniversary sale rack. I only found a medium (too big on me). Still, I wanted to see if a petite like me could wear this length… and not be overwhelmed. It was hard to tell in a medium but this coat (also comes in black) would be ideal for all this year’s maxi skirts and dresses, and fabulous with a long gown. Just so you know, this could be shortened to the length you deem “just right”. With it being on sale, the cost of the alteration won’t even matter. It will be tailored, made for you and look expensive!

A pleated skirt is always in style. I look for a wide waistband as it’s the most flattering. This sleeveless bow-tie blouse is gorgeous alone or fitted under a blazer. Here’s the work outfit you were looking for. A sleek knee boot with this would be so chic! The shoulder bag by is a minimalist style by Coach and comes in a few colors. It’s on sale for just a few more days!

I gathered up more coats from the Anniversary rack to see what was good. Sometimes you have to put it on the body. Save the Duck is a relatively new brand and a great addition to this year’s sale. There were several styles to try, all great fits, promising warmth, but my favorite is the vest! It’s a little bit different from every other puffer in your closet and stands out in a crowd in the prettiest blue. By the way, burgundy and navy look awesome together. Camel and burgundy pair well together too. I love the booties with the Sam Edelman teddy coat!
One last thing, scoop up these wide-leg jeans from Paige while they are on sale. They have lots of stretch, a nice wash and look good on the bottom. Paige premium denim is an all-time favorite.
