Outfit Inspiration – 13 Looks Styled with New Pieces Found at Nordstrom

Last week I was in NYC for Fashion Week and got a taste of what's new in trends. This week I set out to discover "what's new" in my local stores. 

I built my personal stylist business through my years at Nordstrom so that's where I headed first. I walked every inch of the women's departments. I pulled so many things into my dressing room to find the best recommendations for you from each department. Sometimes the hanger just doesn't do those pieces justice.

Just like denim jeans, a denim dress is so so easy to style. This one is a really good length and really soft. Wear it now with bare legs, later with knee boots.. and even later into the cold with a sweater, semi-sheer or patterned tights, and knee boots. Push the sleeves and it's lightweight enough to bring out next spring too. It seemed made for the western boot trend that's so big right now.

Shawna Chambray Smocked Waist Minidress by Rails

Lightweight chambray gets updated for a new season in this smocked-waist mini framed with slightly puffed sleeves and frilled ruffles.

Ballet styles are big this fall and that's the vibe of this faux wrap sweater that comes in four colors and is just $69. I sized down to an extra small but could even have done an xx-small. You can have one of the Nordstrom alterations staff put a stitch in that crossover for free (if that made you feel more secure). I found this in the Free People section, which I think is often overlooked. I love the flouncy hem and it also works with the western-style scrunch boot. 

Surplice V-Neck Sweater by Halogen

Fitted long sleeves frame a layer-ready ribbed sweater cast in a solid hue for easy mixing and matching.

Sweater sets are here again, but not your grandma's frumpy style. I'm a grandma and I don't do frumpy. The short cardigan comes in 2 colors and I only had a medium in store. I'd do an extra small in both the cardigan and the matching tank.  

The blazer cardigan would work great with jeans, faux leather pants/leggings... you name it. I love the flap pockets and the relaxed styling. I'm wearing a small but an xsmall works if you don't want it so relaxed.

Strappy Sweater Tank by Halogen

Keep cozy while soaking in the sun in this knit tank top kissed with a hint of stretch for comfort.

When you find a pretty sueded satin blouse that looks more expensive than it is, you have to tell your friends. This sueded fabric feels and looks luxurious and that color is rich. It has a little gather above the wrist which is great because I almost always push or roll my sleeves to slim out my look. The jeans are a new find from Paige in a washed out black straight leg, something a little different. The length is perfect for showing off your boots! They are crazy soft and stretchy and I went down a size. I'm typically a 26 or 27 and I went to a 25.  

Pleat Neck Sueded Satin Blouse by Vince Camuto

A suede-like finish adds drama and depth to this graceful blouse styled with soft pleats shaping the neckline.

I'm a fan of leopard print so of course this mock neck blouse caught my eye. Wear it to work or with denim on the weekend. It has pretty covered buttons at the back of the neck. Use my trick and fasten the buttons in the front, without having your arms in the sleeves. Then, twist it around! If the button loops are too tedious for you, the alterations staff can fix that for you.  

Leopard Print Mock Neck Blouse by Vince Camuto

Polished and chic, this billowy balloon-sleeve blouse is covered in leopard spots and fashioned with a high neckline.

Why did I include a simple ribbed crew neck sweater? The color, of course. I often grab a knit tee on the weekend and this green is worth the mention. Perfect for layering too! There are a few pretty color options. 

Rib Crew Neck Sweater by Halogen

A wide rib brings subtle texture and dimension to a slim-fitting sweater that will take you anywhere with stylish ease.

Give me a fun sleeve and studs, please! The sleeve on this split neck blouse is on the longer side, FYI. That's still "the style". This blouse comes in 4 colors. I cuffed the straight leg jeans and added the combat boot. This boot is ageless and you should see all the color choices! I helped a teenager style it on Saturday and her mom wants it too! It's comfortable and cool without being overly trendy. 

Studded Cuff Split Neck Blouse by Vince Camuto

Studded bell cuffs add some edgy flair to this long-sleeve blouse topped with a chic split neckline.

The square-neck top is a popular style this fall and the peplum cinched waist won my heart. Again, it's ageless and comes in two pattern options. I'm wearing a small.

I threw a quilted jacket smack dab in the middle of this post because that COLOR... you need this color! It's warm and flattering and comes in SIX color options under $100!

A twisted mock neck leads to an alluring cutout on this gorgeous matte-satin blouse cast in a rich teal hue.

I'm so glad I tried this on. This is a beautiful chiffon blouse. At first I thought "work" then I realized that semi-sheer sleeve would make it a perfect "let's grab dinner" option too.

A great turtleneck sweater. PINK is another huge color trend right now for fall and winter but if it's not your thing, there are 5 color choices available. What I love is that it's a non-wool option, hand washable. It won't show "pills" like a lot of sweaters do and it's not at all itchy. That popcorn texture is fun, the color just gorgeous!
